peasant boy in his
growing years.
He watched
and fed the farm
animals
(sheeps, pigs,cows).
32
Vincent worked as
a tutor so he could
continue studying
and obtain higher
education.
33
Vincent had a
natural intelligence
and a practical mind.
He was resourceful.
He worked to obtain
education.
34
Vincent in his
young adulthood
rejected his
poverty.
35
Though he was
kind
to the poor,
Vincent could not
accept his poverty.
36
His poverty
experience
made him
an ambitious
person.
37
He was ashamed to be
identified with his
father because he
looked so shabby,
dirty and poor just like
any farmer.
38
As a young priest
he was obsessed
with the desire to
provide security
for his family.
39
His goal was to obtain
a position in the
Church that would
ensure security for him
and his family.
40
Vincent’s
ambition led
him to
experience so
much darkness
in his life.
41
He was offered a
benefice
by an old
woman but the
money had
been stolen.
42
Vincent had to run
afterthe thief.He
borrowed a horse but
sold it when he ran
short of money.
43
Vincent
succeeded in
getting
the money.
44
On his way home,
he took the ship.
The boat was
captured by the
pirates.
45
Vincent was taken captive
by the Barbarians.
46
He was sold
as a slave.
47
FISHERMAN
FARMER
ALCHEMIST
48
He went through
humiliating
experiences as he
was sold from one
master to another,
working for them
as a slave.
49
This lasted for 2
years.
His last master,
a renegade, helped
him escape.
50
Vincent
returned to
his priestly
office.
51
At one point,
he was
falsely
accused of
being a thief.
52
Although this brought him
shame and damaged his
reputation, Vincent remained
silent. It took years before the
real thief vindicated Vincent of
this crime.
53
Vincent also
had crisis in
faith for 3 to
4 years.
54
He placed a copy
of the Creed in his
pocket pinned
next to his heart to
help him keep his
faith.
55
Vincent
consecrated
himself to God to
serve the poor if
God will take away
his temptations.
56
He continued to
obtain no
position in the
Church for years
despite all his
attempts.
57
Friends tried
to help him be
assigned in a
rich Parish but
to no avail.
58
God continued
to mold Vincent
by giving him all
these trials and
humiliations.
59
God further
molded
Vincent by
sending him
to the poor.

confessions
63
This led to the
founding of the
Congregation of the
Mission also called
the Vincentians.
64
In a Parish at
Chatillon, Vincent
organized the
care of a poor and
sick family.
65
This gave birth to
the organization of
charities and the
founding of the
Ladies of Charity
and the Daughters
of Charity.
66
God sent Vincent to
the Poor so that he
may embrace his
own experience of
being poor and
