● Now that you have one sword.
Let’s give it style with the Ninja
blade to slice through anything
this cycle may bring.

be on-task to get to the work-

Standard
SEV1. Obtain, evaluate, and
communicate information to investigate
the flow of energy and cycling of matter
within an ecosystem.
b. Develop and use a model based on
the Laws of Thermodynamics to predict
energy transfers throughout an
ecosystem (food chains, food webs,
and trophic levels).
8
Learning Target
I can describe the different levels of
a trophic pyramid.
I can explain the organism niche at
each level.
9
Back to Monday
●
Mr. Allen likes to run. 30 minutes with running in the park he is
sweaty and breathing heavy. Using thermodynamics why is he
doing this?
10
Poll
Why does Mr. Allen running explain thermodynamics
The heat being wasted from burning energy
The heat being wasted from cooking eggs
The run was too much
He transferred energy to the next level by being eaten by a lion
11
Three Truths and a Lie
🐢 A deciduous forest biome has the most
biodiversity, because of its temperate climate and
even rainfall.
🐇 Thermodynamics can be applied to environmental
science with heat and energy transfer in a food chain.
😀 Only one ecological level can be represented in a
food chain.
🔊 Glaciers melting change the chemistry of the
ocean biome.
12
Multiple Choice
Which of these choices is not right
🐇 Thermodynamics can be applied to environmental science with heat and energy transfer in a food chain.

Ecosystems Require Energy
Ecosystems require constant inputs of energy from sunlight or
chemicals. Producers use energy and inorganic molecules to make
food. Consumers take in food by eating producers or other living
things. Decomposers break down dead organisms and other organic
wastes and release inorganic molecules back to the environment.
15
Food Web

different food
chains can you

web?

Energy Movement
We have looked at ways
to show the movement of
energy in ecosystems.
Yesterday we looked at
food chains and food
webs. Today we will look
at energy pyramids and
trophic levels.
18
19
Trophic Levels
Trophic levels describe what
organisms eat. The lowest are
simple plants that get energy
from sunlight to apex predators
at the top of the food chain.
20
Ecosystem Energy Flow
For most of life the energy flow starts with the sun. Only 1% of
the energy entering the biome is captured. Only 10% of this
energy is passed on, the rest is converted to heat as it is used.
21
Try this!

23
Labelling
Label the organisms according to energy production levels(highest being on the bottom)
Chipmunk
Falcon
Acorn

●
How many levels of the trophic levels can you record?

Progress Learning –
Energy Transfer
🔶 Log into progress learning from Clever.
🔶 Select sudy plan from the main page.
🔶 Click on the SEV 1c.
🔶 Watch the Eutrophication video and answer the questions.
🔶 Complete the task.
🔶This is a graded assignment to complete.
🔶 Do not skip ahead. We will work on the other activities later
in the week.
✅ Give a green check when you are finished!
🔶 If you finish early open the practice and choose an activity
in the Aquatic biomes section.

Pyramid of Biomass
Look at these different ecosystems. What do you notice?
28
Pyramid of Numbers
How about the pyramid of numbers that looks at the number of
organisms at each level?
29
Ecological Pyramids
Find an
example to
use all three.
Hot question
is there
another
pyramid?

Human Impact Topic
Trawling
Trawling is when fishermen pull a big
net behind or next to the boat and
catch everything in front of the net.
There is a lot that is caught that dies
and is not the fish that the fishermen
wanted. This is called bycatch.
