A sonnet is a lyric poem that is usually written in rhymed iambic pentameter. In a play, a sonnet could also be made up of lines spoken by more than one person.
Sonnets have three quatrains and a couplet.
Quatrain: a quatrain is a stanza of poetry with four lines. Usually, quatrains have an alternating rhyme scheme, meaning every other line rhymes. In a sonnet, each quatrain explores a different aspect of the poem's theme.
Couplet: a couplet is two lines of poetry that rhyme. In a sonnet, the last two lines are a couplet, which gives a concluding thought or comment on the entire poem.
