What were the 13 Colonies?
Between 1500 and 1735 England (Later known as Great Britain) established 13 colonies in North America.
Colony: An area claimed by and under the control of another country, usually that is far away, and is lived in by settlers from that country.

A Colony is like one "pice" of an Empire. The country in charge, and all of its colonies together, make an Empire.
This is a map of the English (and later British) Empire in 1763.
