They are made up of a verb and a particle or, sometimes, two particles. The particle can be either a preposition or an adverb or both

The particle often changes the meaning of the verb.

3

For example:

i looked at the mirror. (look= see)

I looked for some cheese in the fridge. (look for= search)

I look up to my father for any advice.( look up to= admire someone)

4

put

off... He does not put off what can be done today.... put off= keep for next day

away..... Put away the phone and listen to me. ... put Away = keep

out... The fire was put out by the firemen. put out = extinguished

5

look

into (investigate)

out ( careful!!)

after ( take care)

up ( search)

6

break

into ( enter forcibly)

out ( escape)

up ( end a relationship)

Down (stop functioning (vehicle, machine))

7

Drop

8

Why are Phrasal verbs important

For Clarity and Accuracy
using the wrong phrasal verb like "lay out" instead of "set out" can alter the meaning of a sentence and compromise clarity.

For Conciseness and Efficiency
"turn on" is more concise than "activate the device."
