• I will not be hunting you down to turn in late work this semester. It's up to you.

• I will be informing parents, coaches, OAP director, band director, art teacher, etc. of your missing work. Accountability matters and we care about you!

• I will no longer accept work that is more than a week late. You will receive a 0.

Whether it was a good year or not, it is now time to move on to 2024.

To reflect on 2023 and honor beginning 2024 with a fresh start, we are
going to be writing a BREAKUP LETTER to 2023.

Dear 2023,

What a year you’ve been. You’ve been challenging at times but also taught me a lot. We had

some good times, like our vacation and starting a new school year at the high school, which is great!

2023 taught me to expect the unexpected and to boldly try new things- even scary things (like teaching high schoolers). You brought the Texas Rangers their first ever World Series win, a Dolly Parton halftime show, and the movie Oppenheimer.

Now, though, it’s time to say goodbye. I will not miss having to learn 85 new names and faces

and forgetting it every week until I FINALLY got to know everyone. 2023 meant leaving behind friends at the
junior high, and making new friends here. Now that I have a high schooler at home, I get to work the football concession stand. Yippee. 2023 brought a lot of changes, and most of them were good, but some were not
so good. You also brought us a war between Israel and Palestine, and I got a bad case of Flu B.

Growth and challenges strengthen us as people, and this is why I am moving on from you, 2023. I hate to
break your heart, but I have a new year in my life: 2024. He's shiny, new, and I find his potential very
attractive. This new relationship with 2024 is already off to a great start. I hope to discover more about myself,
travel to California, grow closer to God, and help my students become better writers. Sorry 2023, but we are
through. I hope you'll understand.
