Causes

​Specific causes are unknown but some theories are

• Abnormalities in the metabolism of brain chemicals

• Genetic Factors

• Bacterial infection

• Georges Albert Edouard Brutus Gilles de la Tourette published an article in 1884 about movement disorders

• In 1885 he identified Tourettes syndrome and 9 patients that had it

Treatments

​​ There is no cure but it can be managed by :

• Behavioral therapy

• Medications

• CBIT(Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics)

Prognosis

Tics can go away after a few years or improve a lot if they are mild, but severe tics can also be treated and improved.
