Yesterday we started talking about the jobs of the different organelles in plant and animal cells by looking at some clues.
2
Teach/Engage
Today we are going to spend some time taking notes to learn the specific information about the functions of the organelles.
3
I can explain the function of the organelles in plant and animal cells.
The next slide has a link!
4
5
Animal cells are the basic building blocks of life in animals.
6
Plant cells are the basic building blocks of life in plants.
7
Plant cells are the basic building blocks of life in plants.
8
What are the jobs of the organelles?
9
The nucleus is the brain of the cell. It controls the cell's activities.
10
The cytoplasm is the jelly-like substance that holds and protects the cell's organelles.
11
The chloroplasts are green structures found only in plant cells and they use energy from the sun to make food!
12
The cell membrane is the outer layer of an animal cell, and it controls the movement in and out of the cell.
13
The animal cell has a rounder shape.
The plant cell is shaped more like a rectangle.
You will glue these in your notebook.
14
The cell wall is the outer layer of a plant cell. It supports the cell.
15
You will be using the models you glued in your notebook to help you learn the parts of plant and animal cells. If you choose to color them, I recommend coloring the same organelles the same color in each cell. (For example, color both nuclei the same color. )

16
The cytoplasm maintains the shape, the consistency of the cell, and provides suspension to the organelles.
The cell membrane acts as a barrier and controls what goes in or out of a cell.
The cell wall surrounds the plant cell and gives structure to the cell.
The nucleus regulates all activity within the cell.
The chloroplasts store material to help plants make food.
17
There is more!
You will not be tested on the organelle in the next slide, but it is one that you MAY want to learn. It will help you more easily recognize the difference between plant and animal cells.
18
Remember, each organelle in both plant and animal cells have a distinct and important job necessary for plants and animals to survive!
Summary
19
