Using Semicolons

When we write, some of our ideas are related. When we find pairs of sentences that could be connected, we should connect them. One way to do this is to use semicolons.

Before you join two sentences with a semicolon, be sure that the sentences are very closely related and equally important.

Related Sentences: The fall carnival is a great fund-raiser. It produces a lot of money for different school organizations.

Combined: The fall carnival is a great fund-raiser; it produces a lot of money for different school organizations.

Unrelated Sentences: Each organization has a booth. I'm in the Spanish club.

Sentences that are not closely related should NOT be combined.

If you decide the pair of sentences should be combined, type the combined sentences in the answer box.
