Black Mamba

​Black mambas reside in South and East African savannas, rocky hills and open woodlands. They like low, open spaces and enjoy sleeping in hollow trees, rock crevices, burrows or empty termite mounds. They are found in both tropical and temperate regions.

Where they live

​Black mambas are known for their large size, quickness and extremely potent venom. They have coffin-shaped heads and are graceful, athletic snakes. Black mambas live in sub-Saharan Africa and are one of the continent's most dangerous snakes.

​Diets

​It mostly preys on small vertebrates such as birds, particularly nestlings and fledglings, and small mammals like rodents, bats. They generally prefer warm-blooded prey but will also consume other snakes.

​Adult mambas have few natural predators aside from birds of prey. Brown snake eagles are verified predators of adult black mambas, of up to at least 2.7 m (8 ft 10 in). Other eagles known to hunt or at least consume grown black mambas include tawny eagles and martial eagles.
