Heredity is the transfer of trait from parents to offspring. Traits are transferred through genes. 2 genes are inherited, 1 from each parent. The inherited genes both controls a specific trait. For that matter they are called Alleles. Alleles are alternate form of genes that controls specific trait.

The basic unit of heredity is called?
Trait
gene
allele
chromosome
6
Alleles are represented with two alphabets. The one capital letter(B) is called the dominant gene/allele. The other one in lowercase(b) is called recessive gene/allele. The dominant gene is always written before the recessive gene. Example Bb
Dominant & Recessive
Remember that the dominant gene always blocks the recessive gene. In the above example, Brown eye B is dominant over recessive blue eye b, so both parents are Bb, but they have brown eye because of the presence of dominant B for brown eye.
If babies are formed between the two
BB = Brown eye (dominant genes)
Bb = Brown eye (dominant block recessive)
bb = Blue eye ( no dominant present)
