Force and Work
Force - is a push or pull. It is measured in Newtons (N)
Work is done when an object moves in the direction of a force. It is measured in Joules (J) or Newton meters (Nm).
In science work can be calculated by using the formula
Work = force x distance. {w=fxd}
3
Which image shows work being done?
4
Sample Question:
Jason lifted a 10N box from the car that is 5m away. Calculate how much work was done?
Work = Force x Distance
Work= 10N x 5m
Work = 50Nm

Machines
6
What is a machine?
A machine is a device or tool used to make work easier. It makes work easier by increasing your force OR changing the direction of the force.
7
Simple machines:
There are 6

A slanted surface used to push objects up or down.
eg. ramp, slide, staircase
Inclined plane
Its an inclined plane wrapped around a pole. used to fasten objects together. eg. jar lid, drill bit
