​Zdań celowych (clauses of purpose) używamy, aby wskazać cel określonej czynności.

Zdania celowe tworzymy za pomocą konstrukcji:
to + bezokolicznik („aby”, „żeby”) oraz
not to + bezokolicznik („aby nie”, „żeby nie”).

w języku formalnym możemy także użyć wyrażeń:
in order to/so as to + bezokolicznik („aby”, „żeby”) oraz
in order not to/so as not to + bezokolicznik („aby nie”, „żeby nie”).

​Mia worked at a local surgery as a receptionist to earn some money for her medical studies.
Mia pracowała w lokalnej przychodni jako recepcjonistka, aby zarobić na studia medyczne.

The doctor told me not to chew the tablets.

can w czasie teraźniejszym:

could/would w czasie przeszłym:
The hospital was closed for visitors so that the patients wouldn’t catch the flu.
