Zdań celowych (clauses of purpose) używamy, aby wskazać cel określonej czynności.
Zdania celowe tworzymy za pomocą konstrukcji:
to + bezokolicznik („aby”, „żeby”) oraz
not to + bezokolicznik („aby nie”, „żeby nie”).
w języku formalnym możemy także użyć wyrażeń:
in order to/so as to + bezokolicznik („aby”, „żeby”) oraz
in order not to/so as not to + bezokolicznik („aby nie”, „żeby nie”).
