SESSION CHECKLIST:

Checked to see that you have completed ALL previous Unit work before
beginning planning ideas for FMP. If work has not been completed, you will need
to use this session to complete this.

Planned for your trial and testing

Begin Research into chosen idea

Created a folder on One Drive (FMP - *your name*) to save all development
work.

Developed a basic idea

Completed Proposal

Extension Activity) Begin PLANNING - mind maps, storyboards, mood boards,
scripts, draft copy etc....

At the end of the session:

Production Diary Keep a production diary to reflect on your learning throughout
this project.

(Use the Grading Matrix to reflect and to identify skills development. This will also count towards
your Rationale section of your FMP Proposal.

Harvard Referencing
Guide

20

media

You will need to Harvard Reference all of your
research.

There are free Harvard Referencing Generators that format the
reference for you such as:

https://www.citethisforme.com/citation-generator/harvard
https://www.mybib.com/#/projects/jVkMe3/citations

21

media

Example using:
https://www.citethisforme.com/citation-
generator/harvard

For a Youtube Video you will
need to copy and paste the
URL.

You will also need to take note
of the publisher e.g. Nigel
Danson and the Date
Published.

Date accessed is the date you
looked at the video.

You may also need the title of
the video

22

media

How to create
the reference:

Copy and paste the URL into
the generator: You can select
book, website, video etc…

23

media

Once you
have
searched the
URL select
‘Continue’

24

media

You will need the details from the Youtube video to fill in the
details. E.g. Page Title and Author e.g. Nigel Danson.

Once you have completed all the details that you can select
‘complete citation’

25

media

Copy and paste your reference for your bibliography

Use this website to guide you on in-text citations:

How to reference a film

Film seen at the cinema

To reference a film seen at a cinema, you’ll need the
following information:

Title (in italics)
Release year (in round brackets)
Director name
[Feature film]
Place of distribution: Distributor

Example:

The Help (2011) Directed by Tate Taylor. [Feature film]. Burbank, CA: Walt Disney Studios
Motion Pictures.
For the in-text citation, the title of the film is used, followed by the release year separated by a comma, if the film title
is not mentioned already. If the title is mentioned in the text, then only the year should be given, in round brackets.
Examples:

The characters in The Help (2011)a reveal…

The film showcases race relations during the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s in Jackson,
Mississippi (The Help, 2011).

FMP Proposal: Rationale

Section 1 - Rationale
(Approximately 100 words)

This section provides you with an opportunity
to reflect on, review and summarise your
progress and achievements through the first 7
units of the qualification, and the knowledge,
skills and understanding you have acquired:

What you know now, and what it means to
you, compared with what you knew and
could do before you started the course

And how this has influenced your choice of
pathway and your project proposal?

33

media

FMP Proposal: Project Concept

(Complete when you have planned your idea)

Section 2 – Project concept
(Approximately 200 words)

This section provides an opportunity for you to clearly
explain:

The concept and aims of your project,

The research and ideas that will support its
development,

What you anticipate producing

The levels and types of resources that you will need

And an indication of the form in which you will
complete and present your project realisation within
the allocated timescale.

34

media

FMP Proposal: Evaluation

Section 3 – Evaluation
(Approximately 50 words)

This section provides an opportunity for you to explain how you will reflect on
and evaluate your work, as both an ongoing activity and at the conclusion of
the project.

You should describe:

how you intend to record your decision-making

and how you will document changes to your ideas as the project
progresses.

The evaluation section should reference your stated aims and be reflective
and analytical rather than a description of actions completed.

When working in collaboration with others, you should comment on how this
may impact either positively or adversely and outline the steps you can take
to minimise disruption to your own progress.

35

media

FMP Proposal: Research Bibliogrpahy

Section 4 – Bibliography (Harvard Format):

This section provides an opportunity to record:

the initial research sources,

both primary and secondary, that you intend to use.

Your sources of research should be as wide as possible and could
include:

libraries,

galleries,

books,

magazines,

films,

computer games,

websites,

blogs,

social media,

radio programmes,

archive material etc.

Where appropriate, you should use the Harvard system of referencing.
The bibliography should be continuously updated as the project
progresses.

Extension
Activity: Schedule

Project action plan and timetable:

This section provides you with an opportunity to outline
your planning and organisation over a period of weeks
and the activities you will need to carry out in order to
successfully complete your project in the agreed time
frame.

The more time and thought you give to planning your
project, the more successful it is likely to be.

It is important that you consider how you will balance
ambition, time and realism in the realisation of the
project.

You should also include what you are going to do, how
you will do it and by when.

Remember to include: time spent sourcing materials and
other resources to conduct research, feedback from
tutors and peers, and when you will carry out
independent study

RESEARCH

Conduct thorough, relevant research to help develop your project.
Analyse and evaluate your research, this will help you to make
informative decisions on the viability of your project idea.

Research should include:

Primary Research

Secondary Research

Trial and Testing

Drafts and Mock-ups

Investigation into your Target Audience and their engagement with your
product.

All research must be annotated and reflected upon e.g. how has the
research helped you?

All research needs to be correctly Harvard Referenced in a
Bibliography.

Remember research should be relevant and be used to inform decisions of
your Final Project.

40

media

Market Research

For your Product you will need to investigate into your Target
Audience

Magazine: NRS.org (National Readership Survey)
Film: BBFC
TV: Ofcom
Radio: RAJAR
Photography: Social Media hits and Primary Research

41

media

TARGET AUDIENCE

Investigate into your target audience.

Back up your target audience with research.

Research your target audience via collecting
quantitative and qualitative data

E.g.

BFI statistics, BARB, NRS, BBFC etc…

Primary: Surveys, Interviews, Focus Groups etc…

42

media

AUDIENCE
PROFILE

From your research, create an
audience profile:

Demographics
Psychographics
Geodemographics
Social Class

43

media

Research into
your Platform

Where will your product be featured and why?
For example, online, TV, Cinema, Print etc…

44

media

SURVEY

Share ideas with your peers (survey)

Test your ideas with your peers.

Create a survey to gain responses on your concept, pitched to the right
audience, areas to develop

45

media

ANALYSE FEEDBACK

Analyse your peer feedback

What have you found out (Create a research
report to analyse your results)

Do you need to make any changes to your
ideas?

46

media

Other Proposed
Research

Historical/Cultural information
Similar Products
Professional Examples who inspire you
Facts that can help build character e.g. research
