2
3
CORNEA
The
CLEAR TISSUE
that covers the
FRONT
of the eye.
4
PUPIL
The pupil is the
OPENING
through which
light ENTERS
the eye.
5
PUPIL
IN BRIGHT LIGHT:
the pupil becomes SMALLER.
IN DIM LIGHT:
the pupil becomes LARGER.
6
IRIS
● The circular structure
that surrounds the pupil
● Regulates the size of the
pupil.
● Contains pigments that
give eyes their color
7
Open Ended
What color is your Iris?
8
RETINA
A LAYER of
cells that lines
the BACK of
the eye.
9
RETINA
The retina contains
about 130 million
cells called rods
and cones that
respond to light.
10
LENS
A FLEXIBLE
structure that
FOCUSES
light.
11
12
13
HOW LIGHT IS FOCUSED:
The lens of your eye functions something like the lens of a
camera, which focuses light on photographic film.
Because of the way in which the lens of the eye bends the
light rays,
the image it produces is upside down and reversed.
14
Labelling
Label the parts of the eye:
IRIS
PUPIL

16
Reorder
What is the pathway of light through the eyes? Light travels:
through the cornea
through the pupil
through the lens
to the retina
to rods and cones

VISION PROBLEMS
NIGHT BLINDNESS:
Inability to see well in dim light
Caused by poorly functioning rods.
Can be inherited or caused by a lack of Vitamin A.
24
25
Match
Match the VISION PROBLEM with it's EFFECT:
Nearsightedness
Farsightedness
Astigmatism
