Capitalization

- using capital, or upper-case, letters. Capitalization of place names, family names, and days of the week are all standard in English. Using capital letters at the start of a sentence and capitalizing all the letters in a word for emphasis are both examples of capitalization.

​RULES OF CAPITALIZATION

Rule No. 1

- Capital the first word of a quoted sentence.
Example: "The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall. -Nelson Mandela"

- Capitalized a proper noun
Example: Dr. Jose Rizal, Andres Bonifacio

Rule No. 3

- Capitalized a title.
Example: The Catcher in the Rye

- If you’re using the name of a place, capitalize it.
Example: New York City

- If you’re using the name of a place, capitalize it.

- ​acts like a set of 'road signs' to guide the reader through the ideas expressed in your sentences. Punctuation marks can tell the reader when to slow down, speed up and stop. By breaking up your sentences, they contain and structure your ideas.

Period

- A period, or “full stop,” is a punctuation mark in English that expresses the end of a sentence and sometimes abbreviations.
- Periods convey a definitive pause.

Example: She ate an apple yesterday.

Comma

- While a period ends a sentence, a comma indicates a smaller break.

Example: July 4,2023

Commas have quite a few uses in English:

- Separating items in a list of three or more.
- Connecting two independent clauses with a coordinating conjunction.
- Setting apart non-restrictive relative clauses.
-Setting apart nonessential appositives
- Separating parts of a date.
- Separating multiple coordinating adjectives.
