Planet earth is like an enormous puzzle.
It has different parts that all work together.
These parts are called spheres.
Earth has four spheres: Geosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere.
These four spheres are contiually working together and interacting. Everything on Earth can be placed into one of the four systems.
4
Multiple Choice
Which one of these is NOT an Earth System?
Geosphere
Biosphere
Atmosphere
Tectosphere
5
Fill in the Blanks
Type answer...
6
"Geo" means "Earth"
The Earth's geosphere (sometimes called the lithosphere) is the rocks and minerals that make up Earth's landforms.
Beaches, volcanoes, mountains, canyons, anthing made from solid Earth is part of the Geosphere.
The Geosphere includes ONLY non-living things.

Now a quick video on what we have learned about the Geosphere and Biosphere.....
10
The Biosphere is the layer of Earth where ALL living things exist.
The biosphere is part of many different biomes.
Biome examples: deserts, forests, rainforests, wetlands, and grasslands.
Biosphere

"Hydro" means water.
The hydrosphere is all the water on Earth.
This means EVERY drop of water in the OCEAN, RIVERS, and LAKES are all part of the hydrosphere.
Even the water in the air belongs to the hydrosphere.

"Atmo" means air. The atmosphere includes all the GASES on the Earth.
The atmosphere is the thin layer of gases that surround the Earth.
Most of the atmosphere is made of OXYGEN and NITROGEN.
We need oxygen to breathe.
The atmosphere is made up of FIVE layers and is responsible for Earth's weather.
Atmosphere

Moon Phases
4.E.3B.1 Analyze and interpret data from observations to describe patterns in the (1) location, (2) movement, and (3) appearance of the Moon throughout the year
84
Where does the Moon's light come from?
The Moon reflects light from the Sun and just like Earth, half of the Moon is always lit by the Sun. Because of the positions of the Sun, the Moon, and Earth relative to each other, the Moon appears to change shape.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4ZHdzl6ZWg
85
How are the Moon phases made?
The amount of reflected light from the Moon that is seen from Earth determines its phase. The changing shapes of the Moon are called phases. There are four main phases. The change in the Moon’s phases from new moon to new moon takes about four weeks, or 29 ½ days
86
New Moon
The entire half/side of the Moon facing Earth is dark.
87
Crescent Moon
A small section (less than a quarter moon) of the half/side of the Moon facing Earth is lit.
88
Quarter/Half Moon
Half of the side of the Moon facing Earth is lit and the other half is dark. The Moon appears as a half circle; there are two quarter-moon phases in the cycle.
89
Full Moon
The entire half/side of the Moon facing Earth is lit and the Moon appears as a full circle.
