Paul Bunyan and the Flapjack

Long ago, a man named Paul Bunyan lived at a camp deep in the forest. Paul was a strong lumberjack. As a child, Paul could lift as much as several men. He was also fast. He could turn off his light and jump into his bed before the room even got dark!

One day, Paul was so generous that he asked his friend, Sam, to make a flapjack big enough to feed all the lumberjacks at camp. Sam needed a frying pan to hold the huge flapjack. So Paul took all the iron from a mine to make a pan.

Paul had an enormous pan and a giant eggbeater made from the iron. Sam found a lake of milk near the camp, and he collected eggs from every chicken nearby. Sam tied pedals to the eggbeater and rode it right into the lake to beat the eggs into the milk.

Paul Bunyan and the Flapjack

“Sam, how will we ever flip this flapjack?” Paul asked.

“Watch this!” Sam said. He sprinkled popcorn all over. Then he poured the batter on the pan.

The men watched as the pan got hotter and hotter. The popcorn started popping, and it lifted the flapjack into the air. The flapjack flopped back onto the pan to finish cooking.

The crew drilled a hole into a maple tree and filled buckets with sap. They swung the buckets around and around until it turned into maple syrup!

Everyone sat down at a table that was two miles long. Then Paul shouted, “Let’s eat!”
