The History of Chalk

Chalk has always been around in nature. In prehistoric times, people used chalk to make
drawings on the walls of caves. Much later, artists used chalk for drawing. Later, chalk entered
school classrooms. Teachers used chalk sticks on blackboards. Young students also used chalk
sticks and small chalkboards. They used a sponge or a cloth as an eraser. In today’s schools,
chalk is not used quite as much. But it is still fun to use chalk for art projects or sidewalk
drawings.
