What is Golden Week?
Japanese Golden Week is a collection of four national holidays that occur within a week in late April to early May. It's a cherished time for many in Japan to take a break, travel, or spend time with family and friends.
The holidays include Showa Day (April 29), Constitution Memorial Day (May 3), Greenery Day (May 4), and Children's Day (May 5).
This clustering of holidays often results in an extended vacation period, allowing people to relax and enjoy various activities, contributing to a festive atmosphere across the country.

FUN FACTS
In Japan, Christmas is not a religious holiday. All stores are open, and people usually spend time with their friends, boyfriend, or partner. During Christmas, many Japanese people typically eat out, and the must-eat foods during Christmas in Japan are KFC Fried Chicken and Christmas Cake.
Tanabata festival is about two star-crossed lovers, Orihime and Hikoboshi, who are separated by the Milky Way and allowed to meet only once a year on the night of Tanabata. During Tanabata, people write their wishes on small strips of paper called "tanzaku" and hang them on bamboo branches.
Keirou no Hi is a day to show appreciation for elderly people in society. On this day, people often visit and spend time with their elderly family members, offer gifts or flowers as tokens of respect, and participate in community events or activities organized for senior citizens.
Obon Matsuri is a traditional Japanese festival to honor the spirits of ancestors. It is believed that the spirits of deceased family members return to visit their living relatives. People typically clean their homes and visit family graves to pay respects by offering food, drinks, and burning incense. The communities often hold festivals with traditional dances called "Bon Odori," which are performed around a central stage.
