This module highlights new and emerging technology used in the Jamaican classroom by teachers and students, which enables and encourage a more stimulating, vibrant and effective way of teaching and learning. The focus of the module is placed on technology that is user friendly, creates interactive lessons and allows for demonstration of students knowledge, skills and affective learning. Technologies includes:

At the end of Module 1 students should be able to:

• Explain the importance of using technology in education.

• Identify emerging technologies in Education.

• List the benefits of using emerging technologies in the classroom.

• Demonstrate an appreciation of the use of technology in the Education System.

• The use of technology in the Jamaican education system plays a vital role in the success of our students academic and professional achievements. Technology Creates a more engaging learning environment for students, improves interaction and communication in the classroom and provides greater access to information. (Class VR, 2023)
  
  

Emerging Technology in the classroom and its importance.

• The use of educational technology in the classroom allows facilitators to tailor lessons to meet the specific needs of each student. Technology offers personalized and adoptive ways which allows learners to keep engaged during classes, allows for formative evaluation, and same time feedback to students. (Jamaica Observer, 2023)

Emerging Technology in the classroom and its importance.

Artificial Intelligence (AI)- According to the website Top Hat (n.d.) "AI in education refers to using technology to address cognitive, physical, academic, social and emotional factors that impact learning."


AI is used to make the teacher and administrative work load less and more manageable by assisting with grammar checking, text-to-speech platforms and analyzing grades and challenges to give faster feedback.

As the features of AI evolves teachers and students are finding more efficient and interesting ways to create a dynamic learning environment. Tools

Gamification- By introducing common gaming elements to presentations or learning activities students become more engaged, willing to participate and develop greater critical thinking skills. (Storyboarding, Challenges)

Internet of Things (IoT)- This technology integrates sensors and smart devices in the classroom by enabling the use of digital white boards. Which supports an interactive lesson. Some examples are:
