Overall Goal of Spanish Class

Students will gain proficiency in the reading, writing, speaking, and
listening comprehension of the Spanish language.

Students will gain knowledge and understanding of Spanish culture.

8

Multiple Choice

How much Spanish will you (hopefully) know by the end of the semester?

1

I'll be totally fluent.

2

I'll know just a bunch of words and maybe a sentence.

How much Spanish will I know?

Think of a marathon runner...

Think of a baby learning English…

Your goal is to be like a Spanish-speaking toddler.

FSI research indicates that it takes 480 hours to reach basic fluency
in “easy” languages, and 720 hours for harder languages.

If we put in 10 hours a day to learn a language, then basic fluency in the easy languages should take 48 days

you want a better grade.

2. Redo/fix the assignment. Make sure to ask

for help when you need it!

3. Re-submit the assignment and email me

that you redid it.

Starters

Starters do count for points! Make sure you complete them to the
best of your ability!

You always have 2 attempts on the Starter.

We discuss the Starter every day, including the correct answers.
You should complete the second attempt WHILE or AFTER we discuss
the Starter.

Think of the Starters as little “What I Know” checks.

Starters make up approximately 10% of your grade.

20

Multiple Choice

There will be a lot of homework to do at home from Spanish class.

1

True

2

False

22

media
media

Homework

My goal is that you rarely have work to complete outside of school.
You should finish most activities during class, or sometimes with a little
extra time outside of class.

The due dates in Schoology are accurate!

If you have homework often: are you doing your part during class to
get your work done?

23

Multiple Select

What should you do if you’re absent from class? Check all that apply.

1

Interrupt the lesson to talk to the teacher about what was missed

2

Find a good time to ask the teacher about what was missed

3

Check Schoology for missed activities

4

Complete missed work promptly (1 day per day absent)

24

media

Absent?

If you were absent, make sure to ask what you missed and what
you need to make up.
Look back at the Schoology folder too!

You will need to make up any assignments, unless that’s not possible,
according to the teacher.

Starters count for points, so make sure you do that too!

You have one school day for each school day missed to make up
your work.
For example, if you missed 3 days of school, you have 3 school days to
make up that work.

25

Multiple Choice

Oh no! A missing assignment! Now I have a 0% for this assignment! When must missing assignments be turned in by in order to receive credit for it for SPANISH class?

1

The next day

2

By the end of the marking period

3

By the next test

4

Within 10 days

26

Multiple Choice

How much credit can be earned on LATE assignments?

1

0%

2

50%

3

75%

4

100%

27

media
media

Late/Missing Assignments

Any activity not turned in on time will result in a 0 on it.

However, students can still complete the activity to earn up to 75%.
75% is MUCH better than 0%!

Here’s what to do when you have a missing/late assignment:
Complete the assignment. Get help if you need it!

Submit the assignment on Schoology.

Email the teacher with a screenshot of the assignment or the
assignment as an attachment.

I take missing assignments throughout the whole marking period.

Other Policies - Phones + iPads

Cellphones
Phones must remain inside students’ lockers
and should be OFF during class.

If you use your phone during class, I may take it or
you might have to take it to the office for a parent to
pick up.

iPads
You will use your iPad daily in this class. Please be
sure to bring a charged iPad to class every day.

iPads are a privilege to have and use. Students
should use iPads appropriately during class

(by

staying on task, being mindful of volume, etc.).

Using an iPad inappropriately during class could
result in a loss of privileges.

Other Policies - Bathroom/Breaks

Do your best to take a break between classes, but I know it doesn’t always work out.

The best times to take a bathroom/other break are at the beginning of class during
song/calendar or during individual work time.

A bad time to take a break is during instructions and partner/group activities .

Do not overuse or abuse break times. You have a limited amount of passes!

To use the bathroom,
Ask for permission at a ‘good’ time.

If granted permission, create a pass.

Leave the pass open at my desk or your desk.

Go straight to the bathroom. Do your business quickly.

Wash your hands. Come back into class quietly.
