UK - EARLY APPLICATION

Deadline: – October 15th. Students applying to:
University of Oxford
University of Cambridge
Medicine/Veterinary/Dentistry

Note:

Other Russel group universities do not have specific deadlines other
that UCAS deadline, however they recommend early application.
Early admission decisions are not common across the board in UK
universities, some institutions do provide early feedback or decisions
under specific circumstances, especially for highly competitive fields
such as medicine.

US – EARLY DECISION, EARLY ACTION
DEADLINE: NOVEMBER 1ST

Early Decision (ED)

A binding application process; accepted = committed
to attend.

Advantages:

Higher acceptance rates
Early notification (typically December)
Demonstrates strong interest

Disadvantages:

Binding commitment
Limited ability to compare financial aid
Requires early decision-making

Notes: You have to be certain about the choice.

Thorough research on the university

Financial implications discussed with family

Ensure it's the top choice institution

Early Action (EA)

A non-binding early application process;
accepted = not committed.

Advantages:
Flexible, non-binding option
Early notification for reduced anxiety
Possible scholarship opportunities

Disadvantages:
Possible time pressure for applications
Limited time for improved grades

Notes: EA provides more flexibility compared to
ED.

THE IB ADVANTAGE

IB Diploma: Rigorous coursework, Extended Essay, CAS, ToK.

STANDARDIZED TESTS PREPARATION

US:

SAT consists of three sections: Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, and
Math, with a total of 154 questions. It emphasizes reading comprehension
and mathematical problem-solving, with both calculator and non-calculator
math sections focusing mainly on algebra and data analysis.

ACT includes four sections: English, Math, Reading, and Science, totaling
215 questions. It features a Science section assessing critical thinking and
covers a wider range of math topics, including geometry and trigonometry.

Medicine & Dental Schools ( UKCAT)

Strategies: Practice exams, study groups. E.g Plan for multiple test attempts.

OUAC (Ontario Universities' Application Centre) for universities in
Ontario Canada

SUCAS (Scottish Universities Central Application System) for

Requirements: Specific prerequisites, HL subjects.

Example: Highlighting higher-level subjects for UK applications.
