Notice that we don’t change both verbs, only the first verb in
the verb phrase.

1. Me gusta bailar. NOT Me gusta bailo.
2. Le gusta cantar. NOT Le gusta canta.

This is the same in English.
1. I like to dance. NOT I like I dance.
2. She likes to sing. NOT She likes she sings.

The two verb rule

This is the two verb rule:

When you have two verbs
one right after the other,
conjugate the first verb, and
leave the second verb in the
infinitive.

Some verbs that work this way (verb + infinitive) to make a verb phrase
are:

acabar de + infinitive → just did something
deber + infinitive → should do something
gustaría + infinitive → would like to do something
ir a + infinitive → going to do something
necesitar + infinitive → need to do something
pensar + infinitive → plan to do something
poder + infinitive → can/be able to do something
querer + infinitive → want to do something
soler + infinitive → usually do something
tener que + infinitive → have to do something
