The Importance of Exercise
Start slowly. You can put yourself at risk if you do not usually get much physical activity and then all of a sudden do vigorous physical activity.
Moderate physical activity is generally safe for most people. Moderate physical activity is an exercise that is not excessive. Examples: walking, swimming leisurely, or riding a bike slowly.
If you have a current health condition, talk with your doctor to find out if your condition in any way limits your ability to be active.
Vigorous physical activity is an exercise that increases your heart rate and uses more muscle strength, such as: running, swimming competitively, playing football, playing soccer.

Components of Health-Related Fitness
There are 5 Components of Health-Related Fitness:
1. Cardiorespiratory Endurance
2. Muscular Strength
3. Muscular Endurance
4. Flexibility
5. Body Composition
What is the difference between physical fitness and health-related fitness?
Physical fitness is the ability to perform physical activity and to meet the demands of daily living while being energetic and alert.
Health-related fitness is the ability of the heart, lungs, muscles, and joints to function at optimal capacity.
11
1. Cardiorespiratory Endurance
Physical activity improves cardiorespiratory endurance.
Cardiorespiratory endurance: the ability of the circulatory and respiratory systems to supply oxygen to muscles during physical activity.
12
2. Muscular Strength
Physical activity builds strong muscles.
Muscular strength: the amount of force you can exert or how much weight you can lift.
13
3. Muscular Endurance
Physical activity can build muscular endurance.
Muscular endurance: the number of times you can repeatedly exert force or lift a certain weight.
14
4. Flexibility
Physical activity can help you stay flexible as you age.
Flexibility: the range of motion that you have around a joint.
15
5. Body Composition
Physical activity can help you control your body composition.
Body composition: the percentages of fat, bone, water, and muscle in the body.

Skill-Related Fitness
Skill-Related Fitness includes:
Agility: the ability to move quickly and easily
Balance: the ability to remain upright
Coordination: the ability to use different parts of the body together, smoothly and efficiently
Reaction Time: the amount of time it takes to respond to a stimulus
Speed: the rate at which someone is able to move
Power: the ability to move or travel with great speed or force
Skill-related fitness is the capacity to perform well in sports and physical activities. Fitness skills are skills that can be used in sports and physical activities.
