Meal Planning
●Meal planning is a valuable skill that can make a
significant difference in your daily life
●It involves thinking ahead and organizing your
meals for a certain period, typically a week, in
advance
●Whether you're a busy student, a working
professional, or just looking to eat healthier, meal
planning can simplify your life and bring
numerous benefits
6

make healthier choices since
you can focus on balanced
meals and nutritious
ingredients
With meals already planned,
you save time by avoiding
last-minute decisions or
multiple trips to the store
Time Saving

Fundamentals of Meal Planning
Take a look in your kitchen. What
ingredients do you already have?
Using what you have avoids extra trips to
the store and prevents food waste.
Choose ingredients that can be used in
different dishes. For example, if you buy
chicken, you can use it for stir-fry, salads,
and wraps. This way, you won't get tired of
eating the same thing every day.
For instance, use cooked rice for a stir-fry
and then turn the leftovers into fried rice.
Use a piece of paper, your phone, or an app
to jot down your meal plan for the week.
Having a plan keeps you organized and
reduces decision-making stress.
When you cook, make extra portions.
Leftovers can be reheated for lunch or
transformed into new dishes.
If planning a whole week feels
overwhelming, start with a few days and
work your way up.

How To Meal Plan
●Consider your weekly schedule, including work commitments,
social events, and any evenings when you might be dining out (Note
your dietary preferences/restrictions)
●Decide how many meals you want to plan for each day: Typically,
this includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks.
●Write it Down: Use a worksheet, a simple spreadsheet, a notebook,
or a meal-planning app to create a template for the week.
●Plan for Variety:, Ensure your meal plan includes a variety of food
groups and ingredients to provide balanced nutrition.
●Check what you already have:, Before making your grocery list,
check your pantry and fridge to see what ingredients you already
have. This will help you avoid buying duplicates and use up items
that are close to their expiration date.
14
How To Meal Plan
●Look for Recipe Inspiration, Browse through cookbooks, food
blogs, or online recipe websites for meal ideas. Consider recipes
that use similar ingredients to minimize waste and maximize the use
of fresh produce.
●Make a Grocery List: Based on your meal plan, create a detailed
grocery list. Organize the list by food categories (e.g., vegetables,
proteins, grains) to make shopping more efficient.
●Shop with Intention Stick to your grocery list and avoid impulsive
purchases. Shopping with intention will help you stay on budget and
prevent food waste.
●Prep Ahead:, After grocery shopping, spend some time prepping
ingredients or even cooking certain components of your meals in
advance. This can save you time during busy weekdays and make
mealtime preparation a breeze.
●Stay Flexible:,Meal planning is meant to make your life easier, so
don't be afraid to adjust the plan if needed. If you have leftovers
from one meal, incorporate them into another meal later in the
week.

Mise en Place
●Preparing for everything you need
before cooking starts so the only work
you have to do is the actual cooking
●A French term for having all your
ingredients measured, cut, peeled, sliced,
grated, etc. before you start cooking.
●Directly translated from French, mise en
place means "everything in its place."
19
Benefits of Mise en Place
By measuring your
ingredients beforehand, you
can reduce food waste.
With mise en place, you can
identify missing ingredients
before you cook. This ensures
that recipes are prepared
correctly.
Preparation
Decreased Waste
It reduces confusion and
cuts down on wasted
products. By keeping all of
your equipment and
ingredients in one place, you
won't have to navigate the
kitchen while you cook.
By doing prep work before
you begin cooking, you will
save time and move
seamlessly through the
steps of each recipe.
