What is a “Unified” Sport?

Unified Bocce is a Special Olympics program that combines Special Olympics-eligible students with and without intellectual disabilities on the same sports teams made up of equal numbers.

The goal of Unified Bocce is to promote unity and diversity, and to increase acceptance of people with all abilities. Unified Sports student athletes are treated the same as other interscholastic sports teams at their school.

Unified Sports student athletes are treated the same as other interscholastic sports teams at their school. For example, they may earn varsity letters, participate in pep rallies, and be included in post-season awards ceremonies. It was inspired by a simple principle: training together and playing together is a quick path to friendship and understanding.

But, wait! Still not sure? Here’s an opportunity to join us….

CD East High School is organizing a first-ever “Fall Festival of Bocce” for
Saturday, November 9th from 9 am.-2 pm.

There will be 4 games going at once with several high school bocce teams attending. It will be a day of fun and bragging rights, an unofficial start to the season. This will be a great way to see your skills, learn the game, meet new people and decide if you want to be part of the official
team and/or just help in other ways.

You will not need to have any official paperwork, just a parent/guardian permission slip completed to attend.

Transportation will be provided. Any other details will be shared once we know.
