Example:

Mary took a picture in the park.

The object in a sentence is who are/what is receiving the action from the subject.

​In this case the subject of the sentence is Mary because Mary took a picture; she did the action. The object in this case is picture because it is what Mary took.

How do we identify

the subject and object in a sentence?

The subject is the person or things that complete the action.

The object is who or what is receiving the action of the verb.

Lucas hugged his girlfriend.

Possessive Pronouns

  • Possessive pronouns are pronouns that indicate possession: who owns (or possesses) what. That is, they are used to point out that something belongs to someone. They are usually used at the end of a sentence.

  • Just like the other personal pronouns that we have reviewed, possessive pronouns do not use an article (the, a, or an).
