Look at this picture again...

• Notice that the products (what is produced) of photosynthesis are the reactants (what is needed) of cellular repiration

• Notice also that the products of cellular respiration are the reactants of photosynthesis

Photosynthesis:

• is the process used by plants to turn the energy from the sun into glucose

• Glucose is a carbohydrate

Photosynthesis:

• occurs in the chloroplasts of leaves

• Thylakoids are flat sacks inside the chloroplast

• The Stroma is the liquid that surrounds the thylakoids

• A stack of thylakoids is called a granum

Photosynthesis occurs in two stages:

• The Light Dependent Reactions

• The Light Independent Reactions of the Calvin Cycle

The Light Dependent Reactions:

• occurs in the thylakoids

• Uses Sunlight and water

• Produces Oxygen and ATP

The Light Independent Reactions / The Calvin Cycle:

• occurs in the stroma

• Uses carbojn dioxide and ATP

• Produces Glucose
