Match

Match the following registers to its function.

stores the current instructions being decoded and executed

used when carrying out ALU calculations

stores addresses of the memory location currently being read from or written

stores data which has been read from memory or data which is about to be written in the memory

stores the address where the next instruction to be read can be found

CIR (current instruction register)

ACC (accumulator)

MAR (memory address register)

MDR (memory data register)

PC (program counter)

Reorder

Reorder the following Fetch-Decode-Execute cycle the first step is:

The PC contains the address of the memory location of the next instruction to be fetched

What is next?

Address is then copied from the program counter (PC) to the memory address register (MAR) via the

address bus

Contents of memory location contained in MAR are then copied into MDR

The contents (instruction) of the MDR are then

copied and placed into the Current Instruction

Register (CIR)

Value of the PC is incremented by 1 so it now points to the next instruction to be fetched

Instruction is decoded and then executed by sending out signals via the control bus to the computer components
