Key Things to Consider

Due Dates: Every school has different application due dates. Most are
between late November and the middle of December.

Application Fees: Every application will require a fee to be paid at the
time of the application submission, typically between $50-100.

Acceptance Rates: It is always best to apply to several schools,
especially if the prefered universities have a low rate of acceptance.

Required Documents

Different universities require different documents, although
all will require academic transcripts and letters of
recommendation from teachers and (often) a non-academic
reference from a coach or mentor.

Academic CVs should highlight more than just academic
accomplishments. American Universities place a lot of
value on extra curricular activities. It is important to
highlight sports, clubs, service, and non-school related
activities

College Essays

American universities typically do not want a general statement of
intent. Many will ask for students to write at least extensive essay on
any number of specific topics. Some schools require students to write
multiple short responses, or even record video responses to different
questions when submitting their applications.

Essays should highlight what sets the student apart from other
potential applicants. These essays should be thoughtful, and provide
universities with insight into students' academic and professional
goals boh at the university and beyond. These should be personalized
for each universities--there is no 'one size fits all' approach!

The Common App

The Common App is a helpful application system that allows
students to submit documents using a single, standard
application that is accepted by a very large number of
universities. While the standard documents can be submitted
one time to the Common App, many universities will also
require students to write essays specific to them.

Students will still be required to pay application fees to each
university that they apply to using the Common App.

Exam Requirements

SAT and ACT Exams: Most universities accept both the SAT
and ACT. Students can take either exam, or both if they wish,
and submit their scores to the universities to which they are
applying. Students can also take SAT2 subject exams to
demonstrate their proficiency in specific areas.

Language Requirement: English proficiency exam scores are
typically waived if the student completes a 4 year
English-language high school program. Many also accept the
SAT and ACT verbal scores as proof of language proficiency.

Financial Aid

International students typically do not qualify for Federal
assistance either in the form of loans or grants. Many
universities offer academic scholarships to deserving students,
and students are also able to apply for private scholarship
endowments that extend their application process to foreign
students.

Students with American citizenship can submit FAFSA
information to receive government-funded grants and loans.

Early Decision and Early Action

Most universities offer an option for Early Decision and/or Early
Action. These allow students to submit applications early in
order to increase their chances of admissions (with many
universities) and to help them make their decision about which
university to attend.

Early decision requires students, if accepted, to attend that
particular school! Early action allows students to receive offers
and acceptance before most university application deadlines,
and can save time (and money).

Acceptance and Wait-Listing

Universities typically make their decisions in February and
March. Most universities use a wait-listing system to offer
students who were initially rejected a chance to attend in the
event that enough students who were accepted choose a
different university.

It is wise not to commit to a school too early, as wait-listed will
typically receive letters of acceptance after a number of the first
round of students have declined.

Key Factors to Consider

It is important to choose a university that meets both your
academic requirements as well as your personal interests.
American universities are far more than just educational
institutions, and there are many factors to consider, such as the
culture of the school, available activities, whether the city is in a
large city or a small rural community, etc.. Many students opt to
transfer after their first year because they are unsatisfied with
the first choice that they made. Some research ahead of time
can ensure that you pick the right school for you.

Key Differences between US and UK

Students applying to the UK will need to select a list of no
more than five universities.

Applicants will submit a single personal statement that
highlights their academic and extracurricular achievements

In addition to their personal statement, students must select
a single teacher or school administrator to write an
academic reference. The referee should be someone who
knows the student very well.

Personal Statements

Personal Statements are the best way for students to set
themselves apart from other applicants. They should be
written with a specific academic program in mind, but not a
specific university, as that statement will be sent to all five
schools on their list.

Personal statements can be a maximum of 4000 characters,
including spaces!

Conditional Offers

Most UK Universities will issue conditional offers that depend
on the student achieving a certain number of specific marks
on their Cambridge or IB exams (two As and one B, for
example).

These offers can be rescinded in the event that the student
does not achieve the minimum required scores.

Medicine Studies

• Medicine studies are free at any public

university in Germany, but will need to have a
strong knowledge of both German and
English, among other requirements

• Medical training programs in Germany are not

split into bachelor’s and master’s degrees, and
will take at least six years and three months to

•Language Course Visa (Visa for Language Learning) – for educational
activities lasting from 3 months up to 1 year, for the purpose of
participating in short German language courses.

study in Germany, but are still trying to find the right program or you still

Bachelor and Master

• The English-language range of courses at Dutch

universities is extremely diverse. Business
administration, tourism, nutrition, health, technology -
you can now find programs in English in almost every
subject area. In fact, of all non-English speaking
countries, the Netherlands offers the largest number
of masters courses in English. There is also a large
selection of English-language programs
under Bachelor's degree courses.

• If you are studying in English, you do not need to take

a language course in advance. In most cases, however,
you have to prove your English skills with a TOEFL or
IELTS test.

Medical studies

• There are admission restrictions in a few subjects. This

affects 6% of all bachelor's degree programs, especially
medical degree programs

• In practice, all universities have to check every year

whether they are expecting too many applicants in
individual courses, they then register the "numerus
fixus" with the ministry. This happens until December
1st of the previous year. For the numerus fixus
courses, the application deadline is January 15 of the
year in which you want to start your studies in

Application deadlines

• For subjects with restricted admission: January 15
• In the few subjects with restricted admission, the application

period ends on January 15, i.e. seven months before the start of
the course at the beginning of September.

Prep Courses

• The Dutch higher education institution of your

choice can supply you with a conditional letter
associated of acceptance. Dutch immigration
law then permits you to come to the
Netherlands for at most one year just before
your studies to follow preparatory courses as
well as pass the examinations set because of
the institution.

Propedeuse Program

• Propedeuse: the first year of study
• The first year of study, the so-called propedeuse, is

important. In this year you will deal with the basics of
the subject and familiarize yourself with the study
methods. Supervision by lecturers is particularly
intensive. At the end of the year, a student who hasn't
gotten along that year will receive intensive student
counseling and may not be able to continue studying.
It is not screened but those who have no prospect of
success in their studies will find out after just one year
and can reorient themselves.

• Today, several of Italy’s institutions are among the

Tuitions

• Students must pay tuition fees to enroll in the universities.

Each university defines its payment terms and conditions;
the amount of fees and contributions to be paid varies from

• They are redefined every year and can be requested from

the respective faculty. They range from approx. EUR 900 to
EUR 1,700 per year. EUR 3,000 can also be achieved in
medical subjects. In addition, registration fees (approx. EUR

Medical Studies

•As an international applicant, you must provide evidence of English language skills.

•One admission criterion is the IMAT (International Medical Admission Test). This
test is divided into five sections:

Logical thinking (30 questions), general knowledge (4 questions), biology (20

questions), chemistry (20 questions) physics and mathematics (10 questions)

verifies the authenticity of the study titles
obtained abroad and the corresponding foreign
institutions that awarded them

Application

• All applicants must take an entrance exam (test

d'ingresso). Applicants for courses with restricted
admission (numero chiuso) must also take a
competitive examination (esame di concorso). The
exams usually take place at the beginning of
September. Information on the admission tests can be

• Some universities have introduced so-called

"orientation tests" for admission-free courses. Taking
the test (whether passed or not) is a prerequisite for
enrollment. Information about the test can be
obtained directly from the university

Enrollment

• Enrollment at Italian universities is usually

done in person on site. Additional documents
must be presented, the scope of which should
be clarified in advance

• In Italy you must contact the respective

university with regard to the application
deadlines and ask them individually

Prep Program

quarter of the year

Introduction to Universities in
Canada

Canada is a popular choice for study. They have six universities in the top hundred in
the world and a lot of other highly respected schools beside.

What is interesting about top canadian universities is that they often have much larger
intakes than equivalent elite schools in the USA or the UK so it can be easier to go to a
really good school in Canada than in other nations.

In addition, these universities have quite high international intakes so can be a good
place to do higher education as an international student.

Note that particularly in the Quibequa district of Canada, tuition is often done in French
rather than English so be aware of language requirements before going.

The university of Toronto, the University of British Columbia, McGill university,
McMaster University and many more.

With the exception of subjects such as fine art, most of the top universities are top in a
wide range of fields and there is less specialization as there is in some countries.

Prep programs

There are a range of university prep courses that range from short courses to foundation years to certificates. The
price and quality of the education varies.
Prices can range for 3000 for a course or 20,000 for a year. I've seen programs up to 40,000$.

You need a Study Permit and a VISA.

However, if the Study Permit is approved, the visa will be added automatically for Turkish nationals.
You do not need to make a separate visa application. The Visa will come with your Study Permit.
This gives parttime work permit rights, up to 20 hours a week

The United Kingdom has some of the oldest and best

universities in the world. Universities such as the Oxford
and Cambridge colleges, SNT. Andrew’s University and

the LSE are some of the most prestigious academic

institutions in the world.

In addition, it has top class universities dedicated to
subjects such as the arts, engineering and medicine.
As well as these top universities, it has a wide range of
other universities all with extremely high levels of tuition.

-The cost of an undergraduate degree for an international student is between £11,400 (US

Personal Statements

Your personal statement is where you sell yourself to the universities.

Note: you write 1 personal statement so it should be for all the universities you have applied

Reference Letter

UK universities require a reference letter.

It is usually written by a teacher of yours. It should reflect your predicted
grades for universities and your qualities as a student.

Prep programs

International Foundation Years.
They vary from school to school, but often include a language component and
a specialization in arts or sciences.
Students will work towards an Undergraduate preparatory Certificate.

Republic of Ireland

●While it does not have a truly elite university like Oxford or MIT, Ireland
still has some good schools with good reviews from students, and high
quality tuition.

●Ireland has two official languages: Irish and English. However, a lot of
courses offer tuition in both languages.

Rankings

Ireland does not have do not have a top 100 in the world university.
However, it has quite a few in the top 500. You can still get an excellent
education there.
The best is considered to be Trianty Collage in Dublin with other high ranking
universities include University College Dublin and the National University of
Ireland.
As with other nations, the rankings change depending on subject. For
example, University College Dublin School Of Medicine, TU Dublin.

Note: medical schools in Ireland are typically much more expensive than other programs.

Scholarships: Just like for the UK there are scholarships available but they are mostly for
postgraduate study. Individual universities, companies and the Irish government do have
scholarships. However, they are very competitive
For instance, the Irish government has a scholarship for international students in their final year. It
only has 60 places, so the students are expected to be of exceptionally high academic quality.
