When Do We Useて (te) form?

1). We use the て (te) form to list actions in sequence:
"I wake up, and then, I take a shower."
"I wake up,
and take a shower."

2.) We use the て (te) form to connect ideas smoothly. See examples below:

べんきょうして、ねます

Without the て (te) form, these actions are not connected and are in two separate sentences

How to Make て form (Group 1 Breakdown)

For Group 1 or Godan verbs, conjugating to the て form follows a specific pattern. Let’s break it down step by step!

Step 1: Understand the Basic Structure

To conjugate these verbs into the て form, you must change the -i ending after dropping the -masu to the corresponding -te form. However, the change depends on the final vowel of the verb.

(i)、ち (chi)、り (ri) → って (tte)
(mi)、に (ni)、び (bi) → んで (nde)
(ki) → いて (ite)
(gi) → いで (ide)
(shi) → して (shite)

Example :

ます kaimasu → かって katte
ます nomimasu → のんで nonde
ます kikimasu → きいてkiite
およます oyogimasu → およいで oyoide
はなます hanashimasu → はなして hanashite

Can you conjugate these verbs into their て form? Choose one and raise your hand to say it out loud or type it on the chat box:
1)
Migakimasu, 2). Arukimasu, 3). Araimasu, 4). Hashirimasu, 5). Norimasu, 7). Asobimasu, 8). Yasumimasu
