France lost the war, so they lost pretty much all their land. Even though Spain joined the war very late and didn't do much, they got the land WEST of the Mississippi River. Great Britain, the winner, go the land EAST of the Mississippi River. However- notice that the colonies (where people actually lived) ends at the Appalachian Mountains.

The British still fought in the traditional European method- straight lines of soldiers set up almost in a square. This method worked well in the open fields of Europe- not in the dense forest of North America.

Winning the war seemed awesome for the colonists and Great Britain. They could now get rich off of the fur trade. EXCEPT Great Britain now had A LOT of land. On that land were Native Americans who had supported the French, because they did not like the British. The Natives had not been invited to the peace talks- they weren't treated as important people- and they definitely didn't trust the British. So they started to attack the British and try to push them off their land. Which meant the army had to fight and defend huge amounts of land- which is expensive.
