Wired Equivalent Prot.​

Original Wi-Fi security protocol

Uses 40-64 bit outdated encryption

​​WEP

​Replaced encryption with TKIP (temporal key integrity prot.)

Now outdated and vulnerable

​Uses AES 128 or better encryption. Replacing TKIP.

Most common currently.

​Uses 192 or better encryption

Uses 4-way handshake

SSIDs (Service Set Identifier)

You can hide your SSID by disabling broadcasting.
Now you have to manually set up connections on each device.

Default SSIDs are commonly used by beacon spamming and Evil Twin attacks.
If you need a publicly broadcasted name, use something unique but not revealing.
