GLOBAL COMPETITION FOR MARKETS AND PRESTIGE- The
United States wants to be seen as a country that has strong
trade with other countries, along with valuable markets of
their own. We want to make a name for ourselves on the
global stage!

EXPANDED NAVY- We want to have naval bases around the
globe for national security (and again prestige)

CULTURAL SUPERIORITY- A belief that it is our civil duty to
spread our civilized culture to others who are less
fortunate or “barbaric.”
