Franck Fontaine told a lot of people that aliens had kidnapped him. Two of his friends said that on 6th November 1979, at Cergy-Pontoise in France, they had seen a light all round Franck’s car and then Franck had disappeared.
Franck said aliens had taken him to their spacecraft and he had woken up a week later in the middle of a field. He said the aliens would return in August 1980 and he was meeting them in the field. Two hundred people said they believed him and went to meet the aliens but they did not arrive.
Look at this report from the magazine. Write the sentences which report what people said on the right and the words they actually said on the left, as in the example below. Then underline the differences.

"Aliens have kidnapped me." → Franck Fontaine told a lot of people that aliens had kidnapped him.
"On 6th November 1979, at Cergy-Pontoise in France, we saw a light all around Franck’s car, and then Franck disappeared." → Two of his friends said that they had seen a light all around Franck’s car and then he had disappeared.
"Aliens took me to their spacecraft, and I woke up a week later in the middle of a field." → Franck said aliens had taken him to their spacecraft and he had woken up a week later in a field.
"The aliens will return in August 1980, and I will meet them in the field." → He said the aliens would return in August 1980 and he was meeting them in the field.
"We believe him and will go to meet the aliens." → Two hundred people said they believed him and went to meet the aliens, but they did not arrive.

Work with a partner. Tell each other what these people said. Use the present simple or the past simple. Write your answers in the spaces when you finish.
