The Iliad was a story about a ten-year war that destroyed the city of Troy.

  • Odysseus was the soldier who came up with the Trojan Horse!

  • After the war, the Spartans felt victorious and full of arrogance. Because the Gods were angered by his bragging, they decided to punish him; his journey home was twice as long and difficult.

  • Physically strong hero of a national or historical importance

  • A vast setting that covers a large portion of the world

  • The hero will search for something of value (gold, love, weapons)

  • Supernatural forces will aid or fight the hero

  • The hero will be glorified in the end
