A&P I Lab 4
Muscle Histology &
Bones/Muscles of Upper Limb

2

How This Unit Works

Muscles & Bones are Learned Together
Focus on Body Regions (Upper Limb, Trunk, Lower Limb)
Bone Box is in the Library for Studying.

3

media
  • Striations - from sarcomeres

  • Full of myofibrils

  • Nuclei is pushed to the side

  • Innervated by an NMJ (but they don't touch)

  • Many synapses. Each bouton forms a synapse but the who area is the NMJ.

Muscle Histology

4

Muslce Cell Model

This is not on your worksheet but WILL be on your practical. Take a moment to look at it!

5

media
  • Sheaths of epimysium and perimysium from muscle extend to form tendon

  • Not all muscles have a tendon (some weave right into the periosteum of the bone)

  • On the right - the lighter pink is the tendon, the darker pink is the muscle

Tendon Histolgy

media
media
  • Chemical synapse between motor neuron and skeletal muscle fibers

  • one NMJ is many boutons. one bouton is one synapse

  • Our slides are not good - but out for you to see

NMJ

  • Skeletal muscle has nuclei pushed to sides, striated, multinucleate, long cells, vascular

  • Tendon is DRCT (different from DICT) and is densly packed with collagen, are avascular

Movements

Use your lab manual or the text on the table to learn different body movements. This will be a quiz/sign-off station.

16

Anatomage Table

Take a few moments to look at the upper limb muscles and bones on the anatomage table. This is not on your worksheet but will be on your practical and will be used for future worksheets.
