Canada was settled by FRANCE and GREAT BRITAIN. That is why today Canada has two official languages (English and French). The Province of Quebec is mostly French speaking and at one time voted to become separate from the rest of Canada. The vote failed and it is still part of Canada today.
The US was colonized by settlers from Great Britain, many of whom were seeking religious freedom (right to practice religion freely). Ideas about government, individual rights, and language were all influenced by Great Britain and shaped the United States. Many events have shaped the United States. For example, the 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon have created prejudices against the Muslim community in the US, stricter travel rules, and more acts of patriotism.
