The U.S. uses its own system for measuring length, weight, and volume.
Length: inches, feet, yards, miles
Weight: ounces, pounds, tons
Volume: cups, pints, quarts, gallons

When was the last time you used a foot, mile, or gallon? Can you think of examples around your home or school?
8
Most countries around the world use the Metric system for measuring.
Length: millimeters, centimeters, meters, kilometers
Weight: milligrams, grams, kilograms
Volume: milliliters, liters
What are U.S. Metric Units?

Why do we need to convert from unit to another?
11
Why Do We Need to Convert?
Sometimes, we need to work with measurements in different systems (for example, traveling abroad or reading a recipe from another country).
Converting helps us understand and compare measurements.
12
Length Conversion:
1 inch = 2.54 cm
1 foot = 30.48 cm
1 yard = 0.91 meters
1 mile = 1.61 kilometers
How to Convert U.S. Customary Units to Metric Units (and Vice Versa)
13
Weight Conversion:
1 ounce = 28.35 grams
1 pound = 0.45 kilograms
1 ton = 907.18 kilograms
How to Convert U.S. Customary Units to Metric Units (and Vice Versa)
