a. 6, 8, 10, 12, 16

b. 5, 7, 9, 11, 13

4

How did you get the answer?

a. Using skip counting by 2

- jumping from 1 number to another number

- the numbers are even numbers therefore, skip the odd numbers

- adding 2

b. a set of odd numbers

- eliminate even numbers

- adding 3

5

Rules in determining the missing terms

  • look for the PATTERN

  • TEST the pattern

  • CHECK

6

ex. 2, 4, 6, 8, _

LOOK FOR THE PATTERN

*This is a sequence of even numbers, therefore the pattern is EVEN NUMBERS

*it has multiples of 2 - skip count by 2

or simply add 2 to get the next term

TEST THE PATTERN

2, 4, 6, and 8 are even numbers but 9 is odd so simply skip 9 and continue to 10

2+2=4 | 4+6=8 | 8+2=10

CHECK
