Compound Words
Compound words are formed when two or more words are joined together to create a NEW word with an entirely NEW meaning that is related to the two words.

Base and ball are individual words.
Base is a location on baseball diamond.
Ball is a round sphere used to play sports.

We can create the compound word, baseball, by blending the words base + ball to make the new word. Baseball means a ball that is used to play baseball.

Cup is a kind of glass to hold a drink in.
Cake is a dessert.

cup + cake to make the new word. Cupcake means a cake that will fit in a cup.
