Integers Defined…
• the set of whole numbers and their opposites;
positive and negative numbers
The integer zero is neither positive nor negative
• two numbers the same distance away from
zero, on opposite sides of the number line, one
positive, the other negative.

Numbers
Note: A positive integer does not have to have a + sign.
For example, +3 and 3 are the same.

Entero: el conjunto de números enteros y sus opuestos;

The Number Line
• The number line continues forever (to infinity) in both the positive and
negative directions – shown by arrows
• You can draw any part of the number line but should draw equal
intervals
intervalos iguales

Integers in the Real World
Now we will see how integers are used in the real
world by classifying integers as positive or negative
and will describe the meaning of zero.

Integers are all whole numbers and their opposites.
This does not include any fractional values, decimals percents or irrational numbers.
What is an integer?
Positive integers are all integers greater than zero and are to the right of zero on a number line.
Negative intergers are all integers less than zero and are to the left of zero on the number line.
Positive VS Negative
Neither! It is not positive and it is not negative.
Is zero Positive or negative?

When the signs are different positive integers will always be greater than 0 and negative integers.
In general the farther to the right on a number line a number is the greater it is.
