Habitat

What is a Habitat?​

​A habitat is a place where animals live. Where they get water, food and shelter.

Types of Habitats:

  • ​Land/ Desert/ Polar Region

  • ​Trees

  • Air

  • Water/ Ocean​

Vertebrates​

The animal ​kingdom is divided into 2 groups: Vertebrates and Invertebrates.

​Vertebrates are animals that have a backbone.

Invertebrates are animals that don't have a backbone.

Vertebrates are divided into further groups ​such as Birds, Amphibians, Reptiles, Fish and Mammals.

Types or Vertebrates

Birds:

  • Birds have feathers and wings.

  • Birds are warm blooded.

Mammals:

  • ​Mammals breathe through lungs.

  • Mammals give birth to their young ones.​

​Fish:

  • ​Fish live in water and have scales.

  • They are cold blooded a​nd breathe through gills.

Types of Vertebrates

Amphibians:

  • ​Amphibians live on both land and water.

  • ​Amphibians use lungs to breathe on land and moist skin/ gills in water.

Reptiles:

  • Reptiles are cold blooded.

  • They lay eggs and have scales.​
