What is a Subject?
The subject is the main noun or pronoun discussed in the sentence. It carries out the action or is the one being discussed.
Example:
'The cat' in the sentence 'The cat is sleeping'.

How do we identify a subject?
When identifying a subject, look out for these things:
1. Find the verb
2. Ask 'who' or 'what'
3. Look for nouns or pronouns
Example: The diligent student completed the assignment.

What is a Predicate?
The part of the sentence that contains the verb and gives details about the subject is called the predicate. It describes what the subject is doing or experiencing.
Example: the expression 'is sleeping' in the sentence 'The cat is sleeping'.

How do we identify a predicate?
To identify a predicate, look out for these things:
1. Find a verb
2. Ask what the subject is doing
3. Ask what is happening
4. Look for additional information
Example: The diligent student completed the assignment.

What is a Compound Subject?
In a sentence, a compound subject contains multiple people, places, things, or ideas.
For example:
The cat and the dog play in the yard.
The compound subject in this case is "the cat and the dog". Working together as the subject, the cat and the dog share the activity of playing in the yard.

Identifying compound subjects
While identifying compound subjects, look for:
1. Coordinating conjunctions, like and, but, or.
2. Multiple nouns or pronouns, like Bob and John or He and his friends.
3. Phrases indicating multiplicity, like along with, as well as, together with.

Using compound subjects
When framing sentences using compound subjects, keep these instructions in mind:
1. Use coordinating conjunctions:
Connect subjects with conjunctions, like, and, or, but.
Example: My sister and I like to play chess.
2. Maintain subject-verb agreement
Make sure that the verb agrees with the compound subject in the sentence.
Example: Laughter and joy fill the room.
