​What is a Compass Rose?

​A Compass Rose is one of the four elements of the map. It shows the four cardinal directions. It must be there on every map.

​Geographers use the for cardinal directions when using or making a map. these four directions are:

​What is a map key?

​A map key tells us what each symbol stands for.

​It also uses symbols, colours or lines to represent essential places or landmarks on a map.

​Symbols also provide us with information about physical features such as seas, oceans, rivers and deserts.

​Colours on the map are used to express some phenomena for e.g. natural maps, the green colour is used to donate the plain areas, brown colour donates the mountainous regions.
