The Milky Way galaxy is enormous when compared to planet Earth. Other planets, moons, and stars are millions of miles away, yet scientists are able to study them. Advances in technology allow scientists to explore objects in the sky. One tool scientists use to study stars, moons, and other planets is called a telescope. This tool makes distant objects appear brighter, larger, and sharper, allowing scientists to see details of these objects that cannot be seen from Earth otherwise. Scientists also use satellites, which are similar to telescopes, except they orbit above Earth and collect and send images of things in space. These images allow scientists to see other parts of objects that cannot be seen with a telescope from Earth. Another method to study space is by using space probes ; robotic space crafts that can land and move around on space objects. These robots can be controlled from Earth and can explore the surfaces of objects in space. Technology has allowed scientists to study space with a variety of tools; from objects on the ground to objects in space.
