We need to find out what 6 x 6 = ?

4

Slide image

I don't know my 6s that well but I know my 5s and 1s.

So I am going to break one of my 6s down in 5 and 1 because I know that

5 + 1 = 6.

5

Slide image

They told me my 5 goes over here on the left

and I can see that there are 5 empty boxes too on the left side of the dotted line.

Now I need to figure out where my 1 will go.

6

Slide image

If my 5 is on the left side of the dotted line, than that means my 1 goes on the right side of the dotted line.

7

Slide image

Now I need to figure out what 5 x 6 = ?

I can count by 5s or I can add up 6 five times.

We are going to add 6 five times because that is what our problem wants us to do.

9

Now we have figured out the left side of the dotted line and know that 5 x 6 = 30

10

Slide image

We need to do the other side too.

11

Slide image

What do you think I am going to put in this box?

Are we counting by 1s or 6s?

12

Slide image

So 1 x 6 = ?

Division 54 ÷ 6

32

Slide image

We need to find two numbers that make 54 but can also be divisible by 6.

33

Slide image

They gave us 30 and 24. Does 30 + 24 = 54??

34

Slide image

If we were not sure, we could look at our multiplication facts of 6 and find two numbers that make 54.

35

Can anyone tell me what 24 ÷ 6 = ?
