-ed, -ing, -er, -est

-ed

• The suffix -ed has 3 different sounds (/t/, /d/, /ed/)

• This suffix puts most words in the past tense.

• Example: I can type my weekend update. vs. I typed my weekend update.

-ing

• This suffix can put words in the present tense. It shows that something is happening right now.

• Example: I am reading this slide to you.

-er

• This suffix has 2 meanings.

• 1- More (A giraffe is taller than a zebra.)

• 2- A person who/a job (teacher, zookeeper, groomer)
