Articles
Hello Everyone Welcome to this Lesson.....
Today in this session we will learn about Articles

2
So, What are Articles?
Well, in English There are
Two types of Articles
Definite Articles
Indefinite Articles
3
Indefinite Article and Definite Articles
Definite Article consists of "The"
Indefinite Article consists of "A" and "An"
4
Remember few facts about
Indefinite Articles
The Article "A" is used before a word that begins with a consonant
The Article "An" is used before a word that begins with a vowel
The Articles "A" and "An" are used to introduce a singular noun
Articles "A" and "An" are used to talk about a thing in general
5
Remember a few facts about
Definite Articles
When this article is used, it means that you are referring to a specific or identified noun, so it will be clear to the listener or reader what exactly you are referring to.
Example: I want to buy the Bag with Unicorns on it
Here the reader is specifying it that She wants to buy a bag with unicorns in it
6
Important points about Articles
Another really important point to remember is that not all words that start with a vowel or consonant actually start with a vowel or consonant sound, as you would expect!
Some consonants might sound like a vowel, and some vowels might sound like consonants. In this case, you use the right indefinite article for the sound
To be continued on the next page
7
Important points about
Articles (Continued)
Example: “A unique idea” – while “unique” starts with a vowel, this word begins with a “yoo” sound, which is a consonant sound – and we use “a” instead of “an”.
“An hourly update” – “hourly” starts with a consonant, but this word begins with a vowel sound – “ow”, which means you need to use “an” instead of “a”.
If you’re not sure, just pronounce the word out aloud and see what it sounds like!
